The Chicago Young Americans are proud to announce that veteran defenseman, Karly Kolssak has committed to play Division 1 hockey at RIT for the 22/23 season. Kolssak started her career at CYA as a U12 with her sights set on the NCAA from the very beginning. “We are all so excited for Karly and her entire family,” commented Cimba. “For me personally, it’s very special to see a player start at CYA as a U12, work though the ups and downs this game brings, not lose focus and ultimately reach their goal. I know Coach Brown has had her eye on Karly since her time at Penn State. Some things are just meant to be.”

Kolssak has been a major presence on CYA’s back end for years, most recently on display in last seasons historic best of 3, 17 period state final. “I can’t tell you how excited I am to be playing for Coach Brown at the next level,” said Kolssak. “Everything I have been looking for came together in one place; The right academics, hockey program and a coaching staff that represent everything I have dreamed about. I want to thank CYA for helping me not “freak out” during this process. It’s so easy to lose yourself in the worry, but CYA kept my head on straight. I also want to thank my teammates, it’s hard to believe how long we’ve all been together, especially Addie Carr, who I started playing with in Glenview at Tier 2 and now we’re going to RIT together. Most importantly I want to thank my family. You have all been there for me, you have all supported me and most importantly, you let me work through this crazy journey. It wasn’t easy, but I always knew you were there for me.”

CYA will continue to lean heavily on Kolssak this season, as the game counts may be low, making every game count even more.

Congrats Karly!!!
